The WVCTSI and the Indiana CTSI have committed to the planned collaborations in Biomedical Informatics, Pilot Projects, Education, and Training and Research Career Development.

The Regenstrief Institute which is responsible for the informatics programs of the Indiana CTSI has been a leader in Biomedical Informatics developing one of the nation's first electronic medical record systems that has been continuously used as a research tool for the last 3 decades. As part of our inter-institutional agreement between the Indiana CTSI and the WVCTSI, Indiana CTSI is happy to provide Regenstrief Institutes' data integration architecture and expertise to assist in the goal of establishing an Oracle repository with an i2b2 structure, and enabling interoperability using caGrid. They are also happy to provide the HOSS (Health Open Source Software) framework, developed by Regenstrief to help with data normalization.

The Indiana CTSI has a robust pilot project program. The program is organized under eight different project development teams and has established a robust series of RFAs to support a wide range of pilot projects across three universities – Indiana University, Purdue University and University of Notre Dame. WVU will join this group, with at least one or two such pilot projects being conducted in collaboration with Indiana CTSI and WVCTSI investigators.

The Indiana CTSI education program, includes career development (K) awards, predoctoral (T) awards and undergraduate programs. The Indiana CTSI is committed to supporting unique career development (K) opportunities for any interested WVCTSI candidates with K awards to obtain additional training at Indiana in medical informatics as part of our existing informatics K program.

The Community Health Engagement Program (CHEP) of the Indiana CTSI is built on a model to enhance statewide community participation in clinical and translational research. This model is also particularly relevant to our own proposed programs in West Virginia, and we can learn a great deal from mutual collaboration. The Indiana CTSI received ARRA funding to develop, implement, and disseminate a process for engaging communities in all phases of clinical and translational research and to develop and disseminate a set of resources or tools that will help CTSAs and CTRs to facilitate participatory research with their community partners. The Indiana CTSI is delighted to engage our unique Appalachian population to participate in this project to co-develop and co-implement the processes, resources and tools to make the program more broadly applicable and of additional value to the national CTSA consortium.
