Research Imaging Services

BERD is launching the following new services:

  • Image Data Set Pull: Rapid retrieval of medical images for researchers, compliant with WVU/WVU Medicine policies.
  • Image Data De-identification: HIPAA-compliant de-identification of medical images, including date shifting, removal of burnt-in patient identifiers, face alterations, skull stripping, study encoding, and re-identification for data integrity.
  • Image Processing:
    • Trimming: Scaling or cutting unnecessary background from images for resolution standardization.
    • Masking: Development of 3D surface rendering for inclusion/exclusion of data based on regions of interest.
    • File Conversion: Conversion of DICOM files to common image types and standardized metadata formats.
    • Standard Space: Non-linear warp to a standard template for comparing different regions of interest.
    • Volumetric Analysis: Calculation of relative areas for cross-condition analysis.
  • Neuroradiology Research: Functional MRI Research: Assistance with experimental design, IRB/Study protocol creation, MRI scanner parameters, data collection, processing, and publication for resting state, task-based, and connectivity fMRI data.
  • Experimental Advising: Statistical Assistance: Aid in planning, power analysis, and statistical issues for clinical investigations related to biomedical imaging studies.
  • Data Management:
    • Data Curation: Expert counsel on database management and accountability, particularly in medical imaging trials.
    • Data Archiving: Secure storage and appropriate purging of study data in compliance with WVU and FDA requirements.
  • Manuscript Preparation: Expertise in various aspects of manuscript preparation, including methods sections, discussion sections, and internal peer-review services for imaging-related works.

Service Prioritization:

While any WVCTSI member may request BERD services free of charge, due to limited personnel and time resources, requests affiliated with the WVCTSI Pilot Projects program will be given highest priority. A full priority list is as follows:

  1. Currently funded WVCTSI projects/scholars/recruits
  2. Previously funded WVCTSI projects/scholars/recruits that are applying for extramural funding
  3. WVCTSI members
  4. PhD/MD students/fellows/residents
  5. Any other requests
