West Virginia Rural Roots to Research
The West Virginia Rural Roots to Research (WVR3) program is expanding access to clinical research across the Mountain State by bringing clinical trials directly to primary care clinics in rural communities.
WVR3 is one of three inaugural hubs of the National Institutes of Health’s CARE for Health™ initiative.

Community Voices
To ensure direct community input, local West Virginia residents were invited to participate in special community forums. Following each conversation, an infographic capturing key points was developed and shared with participants and the community. The infographics are available below:

Current Research
TRUST Trial
The TRUST Trial is the first clinical trial launched through WVR3 and focuses on improving treatment strategies for gout. The study compares two common gout treatment approaches to determine which is most effective for patients.

The Team
The WVR3 team is made up of a multidisciplinary group of experts across the state dedicated to
improving health outcomes. A central hub comprised of four programmatic cores supports specific functions with guidance from three advisory bodies. 
The clinical study partners are based in communities across West Virginia and implement the identified studies in selected clinics within their networks, as shown in the organizational diagram:
